Our program prepares students to perform the wide range of tasks that are needed to facilitate a successful veterinary practice. Learn how to perform lab tests, prepare blood and tissue samples, take vital statistics, help with dental care and assist vets with examinations, treatments and other procedures. Our knowledgeable faculty is dedicated to providing students with the skills necessary to perform veterinary assisting tasks at an exceptional level. The broad coursework covers a range of subjects, including animal anatomy and physiology, nursing skills, animal surgical procedures, animal restraint, and basic front office skills. Often times, veterinary assistants are responsible for answering phones, scheduling appointments and utilizing a computer system.
Once students successfully complete the Carrington College Veterinary Assisting program, they will have the skills and the confidence to:
- Obtain patient information and maintain patient medical records.
- Collect laboratory specimens, and assist with diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures.
- Help with radiography and dental prophylaxes.
- Use learned skills to make animals as comfortable as possible during exams and procedures.
- Demonstrate their proficiency in critical thinking and information management .
- Maintain a high level of professionalism when dealing with patients/owners, and other veterinary care staff members.
